You might want to buy it anyway....would be useful to you in a trade as it is likely quite in demand.

I feel any release of the Glenlivet 16 y/o "nadurra" (ex-bourbon casks?) is a steal :)

Is $76 for a bottle of Amrut Peated CS a steal? It used to be $106 at KGBO.

@Nozinan , I don't know about a "steal" but that seems like a pretty good price, even by US (as opposed to Canadian) standards. I've had my eyes open for a bottle since you started singing its praises on here, and I'd buy one if it I found it at that price.

Well glad I got a couple. After I open 1 tomorrow I'lll have 1 more than I had counted on, and if you and I are ever in the same state/province, I'm sure it can make its way to you...

I rarely think deals that worm their way into my email are worth passing on, but I just got blasted with these from Hi-Time Wine Cellars. They ship.

•CROWN ROYAL MONARCH 75TH ANNIVERSARY BLEND. $30

•MORTLACH RARE OLD. $50

•TALISKER STORM. $46

I'm not really interested in those bottles, but the prices seemed good enough to call out the class here.

I'm looking forward to hearing your opinion on the mortlac, @OlJas

@OlJas I'd get the Crown Royal , I've never tried it but I've heard good things and for 30 dollars you can't go wrong. Everything I've heard about the Mortlach as been very average indeed and I wouldn't bother getting one. As for the Storm you would probably be better off putting the money towards a bottle of the 10.

@maltmate302 & @Alexsweden , I'm not buying any of those—I just thought the prices were good enough to share. I've never had the Crown or the Mortlach and I'm not too interested.

I've had the Talisker Storm and it's OK but much less good than the 10, 18, or 57. Depending on what someone's local prices are on decent peated single malts, though, that Storm could be a decent buy.

Just picked up a bottle of Old Grand Dad 114 for $20. It's usually $24-25.

I picked mine up for $19.95 online at ACE liquor. They sell it at that price several times a year, and if you buy 4 it"s $5 shipping per bottle.

My steal of December is Uigeadail for less than half the price it would cost in Ontario.

@Nozinan New liquor chain opened up in our area and $19.99 is their everyday price for OGD 114. I wasn't really looking for any steals right now but saw it when I was picking up some Porter and thought I'd pick up another bottle.

Black Bull 40yo batch #1 40.2% which was bottled Nov. of 2009. The store I found it in had it marked down from $300 to $220. Granted, it is sill more expensive than the original retail price of $180 . . . six years ago. Personally, I believe it is impossible to find a 40 year old whisky (of any kind) for that price these days. Glad to have a 40yo to open on my 40th this year.

ABC Wine & Spirits here in southeast Florida ran two online coupon promotions this month. The Christmas coupon was worth a $10 discount on any bottle of spirits priced at least $30. So armed with 3 copies of the coupon that indicated only a one time use, I went to three stores all within 12 miles of where I live. I purchased a Glenfiddich 14 Yr Bourbon Barrel Reserve for $39.99, a Bunnahabhain 12 Yr for $37.99 and a Bushmills 10Yr single malt for $21.99.

The New Years coupon was similar, i.e., $10 off, except the minimum retail price for the bottle of spirits was only $25. So repeating what I did earlier in the visits to the three stores, I purchased a Glen Moray Classic Port Cask single malt for $19.99, a Tomatin 12 Yr for $19.99 and a Monkey Shoulder blended malt also for $19.99.

So all told, I purchased six single (one blended) malts for $160 plus 6% tax. Nothing really super but not a bad haul for the money.

Mortlach Old & Rare has been on sale lately around SoCal. I picked this up for $39 last week at Costco in Marina Del Rey. I heard they had it at the Burbank location a couple days later. Hi-times Cellars in Costa Mesa also has this too for $49.

When this came out (for $100ish) I didn't even consider it, but at this price, about half the price of the G&M 15 year bottling, I'll take it!

I tried the Mortlach not so old and not so rare and it wasn't worth getting at any price. Too many other things better than it are much too available... like caffeine free diet coke.

I've had the opportunity to buy Mortlach Old & Rare on sale several times but there have been just to many poor reviews to justify purchasing it . The fact that it's always seems to be on offer could indicate that Mortlach's efforts to make their whisky a premium product is not going as well as expected!

Picked up two bottles of Dickel 9yr single barrel for $21 each. Normal price is $50. The store had them marked with the price of a normal Dickel 750ml.

Scarcely believable, but I found a bottle of Glenfiddich 15 year old Distillery Edition at the back of the top shelf of local Tesco. No label, no box. I had them scan it and it returned a price of £13.88. Barely contained my glee.

Amrut Bourbon Cask for around $46 when it was D Listed at the LCBO. Hummed and hawed when it was $121 but did not pull the trigger. Should have bought 2.

I chased those remaining four bottles of Amrut single cask when they were reduced. They kept on popping up in different stores online. Glad one of them made it into good hands. It was $127.50 before the original price cut to ~ $74.75, which was when I stocked up with 6 (one is almost gone now). If they hadn't been so overpriced originally that would have been a steal too.

8 years ago 0

Astroke replied

@Nozinan Yes, I should have been paying attention on the first price reduction as that price was fair for this quality Whiskey. The LCBO is so frustrating on pricing and selection. Most of my prized purchases have come from the US or other provinces from travelling friends or relatives. Unfortunately the LCBO is run by Wine purchasing idiots.

Currently waiting for 5 bottles of Four Roses 2015 limited edition small batch to arrive showing as dispatched and no further stock available €222 including shipping. That is the price for all 5 the vendor is a wine merchant and fingers crossed he has made a pricing error.

Shipment should be here next week will let you know if it is genuine but does show as 54.3abv which fits for the 2015.
