@dbk, @michaelschout, Thanks, I missed the "3".
In Quebec, the taxes on whisky is more than 100% of the price of the bottle and it is not based on the price you paid, it is based on the price the SAQ (LCBO equivalent) would have paid for this. Which is even worse if you had a great deal. I did bring two bottles of 750ml in several occasions while the maximum allowance is 1.14 liters. I declared it and never paid taxes. Because I was less than a full bottle more than the allowance, they let me go. I have heard stories saying that if you can caught cheating in you duty declaration, you are filed and go through the luggage check each and every time you return to Canada for the rest of your life. I never lied on my declaration since I heard those stories. Going through Canada custom is long enough when your luggages are not checked.

@Kutter I picked it up in Maryland at the Montgomery County Liquor Store. Oddly, it's about $1 cheaper than the Talisker 10 and it's not a sale price.

@whiskyshiba What vintage was that $119 Macallan 18? Sounds like a late 80s, before the last few price hikes.

In which city of Maryland did you pick this up from, is it available in all the MC Liquor Stores?

Recently secured a bottle of Lagavulin 16 for $57 and that was after a $3 price hike about a week or two earlier! Thanks to @onebourbon for the reccon!

@two-bit-cowboy Mac18 1992. A great deal, so I took a case.

@DevD On Tues, the Darnestown store had 4 bottles left. It's sold out at all the other stores in the county.

@drinix Tali 18 for $45...now that's a nasty deal. Nice job! As pointed out by others, it's hard stretched to even find Tali 10 for that cheap.

@two-bit-cowboy Exactly. Also the same store consistently has Laphroaig 30YR for $349usd. So I picked up a case.

The BJ's Wholesale by me has Macallan 18 for $129 and Balvenie Portwood 21 for $149, but I have yet to pick up either.

I am not sure if I got a steal but at my local store I picked up a Talisker 25yr for USD$219.95

"Stole" a bottle of Bowmore 30YR "Seadragon" edition for usd$380 at a random liquor store in downtown L.A. that's on the bottom floor of a large condo-complex. It was behind the counter with about 6 yrs worth of dust on the box. A true steal.

I managed to pick up a decent bargain yesterday. Due to family being away the household shopping duties have fallen to me, and whilst i was at the local Morrisons i thought i would check out their malt selection just in case!

I was quite pleased with what i found, a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask reduced to under £25, and there was just one bottle left on the shelf! It would have been rude not to buy it!

A friend traveling to Buenos Aires was on the lookout for Scotch starting with "L" in the Duty Free stores. He came back with a 1L bottle of Lagavulin's 1991 Distillers Edition for $100.

@DevD Not at every location but the Wine and Cheese Place sells it for that price. I've seen it for sale over $100 but of course I always buy mine at the W&CP

@lmann86, That's incredible. I've never seen it priced under $100 here in the L.A. area until recently. Mission Liquors (one of the largest stores in L.A.) has the Laph18 for $139.99usd. Even Binny's in the Chicago/IL area has it for $99.99.

I'd grab the lot of 'em.

Another bit of a deal came from my mum this past week. She's just returned from holiday in Spain, and brought me back a 1l bottle of Ballantines Finest. Now i've done a bit of checking, and a standard bottle is around £20 online, so as my mum paid just 13 Euros for the large 1l bottle i would say thats a steal!

My local supermarket was clearing out its stocks of HP12, at £19.99 per bottle. I bought the last four bottles, only to find at the checkout that one of them was HP18 in an HP12 box. Better still, the woman at the checkout gave me the HP18 for half price (£9,99!!!) because of the 'mistake'.

Best mistake I've ever drunk.

Reciently found a bottle of Lagavulin 12 year CS for $45. That's fantastic for NYC. That's 1/2 of what other stores are selling it for. Also found Talisker 25 year at another store for $90. Amazing what you can find if you search enough mom-pop stores in big cities.
