I'm particularly curious to hear how this Ardbeg Day release compares with the Alligator.

@rigmorole Well, I currently have an open bottle of Alligator. And I hope to have an open bottle of Auriverdes sooner then later. Mind you stores are not supposed to sell any until the end of the month. I already have plans for a comparison between these two . . .

Personally I think Football has little to do with whisky so the footballtheme doesn't really strike my nerves. From what I've heard they burnt/toasted the cask lids (so only the top) of refill bourbon casks in a certain 'traditional' way to deliver a different Ardbeg profile. The German guy, Horst from whisky.de, had already put a review up at least four weeks ago and he didn't think it was all that special considering the price. Looking forward to the video's of the peatball tournament tho.

@PeatyZealot I didn't see you already mentioned the Horst review, do you understand German @Rigmorole?

Studied German, Old English, and Icelandic in grad school. I understand about half of what Horst says in German. I like his reviews in English too. This one is in English. His English is far better than my Deutsch

@PeatyZealot that's funny, because I viewed the English review using the link @rigmorole posted. I think Horst was pretty positive about it in that one. Haven't seen the German video though.
I couldn't get the Ardbog last year, but I might get this years release. Sounds like a Whisky I could very much enjoy. But it also depends on the price I guess.
Might drive to Rijswijk on May 31st, where there is an Arbeg Embassy. Surely they will have a bottle open that day.

Ralfy says he won't review the Auriverdes because "I refuse to buy into the OTT promotionals."
What does "OTT" mean? Anybody know?

OTT = Over the top. A good adjective for Ardbeg marketing. Check out the whisky sponge for more.......

Have you tasted the new 2014 Ardbeg Day release yet? Well . . . what do you think?
I hear tell it is not a "sherry" oriented dram, but rather a smooth, smoky, peaty, charcoal-y type of dram, devoid of sherry or sweet influences, and with a meaty savory side to it.
I'm rather looking forward to a change of pace. We've still got our blessed Uigie, after all, if we crave a sweet treat from Ardbeg's distillery.
Incidentally, the name "Auriverdes" is in honor of the World Cup host nation's team.
Ardbeg Day is May 31 in Portland, Oregon, USA. I can't wait! My favorite pub (The Highland Stillhouse in Oregon City) will be hosting. It is an "official" Ardbeg pub.
I will certainly post my tasting notes on the Auriverdes as soon as I taste 'er! And I shall also put a word in here edgewise, in this discussion, when the precious time comes at the end of may.
