I have tried many Arran with a finish, but had not tasted this one yet. So, Benny, thanks a lot for providing the sample of this Arran finished on a Marsala cask. Marsala is an Italian fortified wine made in the vicinity of the eponymous city in the western part of Sicily. I am curious as how it influenced this Arran.
Soft and sweet nose on farmer’s butter, raisins and blueberries with a hint of hazelnuts and milk chocolate…. But somewhat closed, honestly. Not very outspoken, actually. And blind I would never have guessed this was Arran (not that this is a must, mind you).
Soft on the palate, but immediately sweet and sour with the emphasis on the latter. Acid candy, cinnamon, hint of red fruit but just a tad too much tannins to my taste, making it dry and mildly bitter. Soft spices like pepper and cinnamon. Hint of dark honey and baked apples, although they struggle to shine through.
Intense and alcoholic finish on woodspices that completely push away the sweetness.
Not a happy finish in my book. Not even 50 EUR, but I can buy much better Arran for the same money. Thank you, Benny.
