No less than 68% ABV is this new make from Arran. So it is probably prudent to keep water handy. Yes, you know that I have a soft spot for new make. I have tried quite a few already (even though most are not commercially available), but you will find that this new make from Arran is truly special!

The nose is very creamy and extremely fruity. But truly very, very fruity indeed. More so than most single malt releases from Arran, in fact! Mostly stewed plums, dried berries and loads of raisins. Very herbal too. Think hay and some fresh barley. Corn on the cob. A hint of stable. Nice nose!

Despite the high ABV it arrives very softly. Yes, this is quite quaffable. I put my water aside. Will not be needing it. Again dark fruit, some spices. Of course you can taste that this is new make, but it already shows a surprising depth. Midplate I get some pepper and sweet candy. Like those hard, spiral lollies.

It evaporates quickly in the finish, but does leave your mouth warm with the taste of red syrup (like the one used around toffee apples) and some pepper.

A bold statement: I think Arran needs better wood. For their spirit is mightily fruit, while most of their standard range is less so. Love this new make!
