Malts of Scotland recently opened a visitor center in Paderborn (Germany), where you will also find the warehouses in which several of Thomas Ewers’ casks are maturing. Some of these were bottled in a special Warehouse Range and are only available at the visitor center. I was able to secure two of the 175 bottles. They contain a beautifully beading, deep bronze liquid.

On the nose, this is a sherry monster! Dark pear syrup, plum compote, sultanas, old leather, baked banana, candied sugar, almonds and cinnamon. Two drops of balsamic and a leaf of mint. With water, I get warm apple pie with whipped cream and Italian espresso. Delicious!

On the palate, I again make dark and warm associations like on the nose, but added with cloves and quite a bit of oak. Syrupy, sweet and powerful. And very drinkable.

The finish is bittersweet, spicy and lasts a very long time.

For me, this is the best of two worlds. I love sherried whiskies and am, of course, aficionado of all things Auchentoshan. So this is the ideal combination for me. It is even a tad better (but not much) than the Xmas bottling by Fulldram. The casks could have been Siamese twins. Truly a wonderful Sherrytoshan!
