This ceramic croc was released in 1986 to celebrate 100 years of shipbuilding industry along the Clydebank. So it contains Auchentoshan from the early ‘70s of last century.

The nose needs a bit of time to open up (which does not come as a surprise when you consider the fact that it has been locked up for almost 30 years). It turns nicely fruity on raisins and lemon. Loads of vanilla and sweet malt. Caramel. A surprising trace of smoke. I think this is all quite good.

It is oily on the palate and rather punchy. The same fruit as on the nose. The spices are a bit louder now: ginger and white pepper. Midpalate it turns a bit dry and bittersweet as if from grapefruit. A hint of milk chocolate. Some nuts as well. Hazelnuts.

The finish is medium long, dry and sweet.

The cliché ‘they do not make them like this anymore’ is certainly true for this young Auchentoshan. This was quite nice! Thanks, Michael!
