Hart Brothers has three Auchentoshan on the market. An 11 Year Old that I have already tried, this 13 Year Old and a 16 Year Old that I will try soon. All samples were gifts from my German whisky buddy Michael - herzlichen dank, mein freund. Just like his younger brother, this one too is cut to 46% ABV.
The nose is rife with floral elements, which translates into buttercups and grasses. Yellow potpourri, so to speak. Gooseberries with a hint of Pink Lady apples precedes the lime. A touch of dried pineapple. White grapefruit and a little bit of cavaillon melons rounds it out.
It rolls gently over the palate. Silky soft in fact. And utterly sweet. White fruit and candied oranges, followed by sugared nuts. Yes, this is very sweet. Overly so, in fact. Reminds me a bit of Fanta. The lemon version, of course. Pineapple cubes. Yes, like I said: honeysweet.
On the medium long finish I detect a hint of oak and a prickly pepper.
Need an aperitif? Look no further.
