Hart Brothers clearly has quite some casks of Auchentoshan 1999 in their warehouses. I previously tasted an 11 Year Old, 13 Year Old and 16 Year Old, all bottled at a drinking strength of 46%. This 14 Year Old from their Finest Collection was bottled at cask strength. It matured on bourbon casks.

The nose is typically Auchentoshan with loads of floral elements, sweet malt, vanilla and citrus. Lemongrass and heather. Some nougat, melon and pineapple too. Softly spiced on ginger and some pepper. Liquorice.

It is surprisingly powerful and spicy on the palate. The pepper speaks first, before the citrus fruit (think lime an grapefruit) are allowed to show themselves. Hints of sugared nuts. Sweet and accessible, but quite punchy.

The medium long finish is full of citrus and pepper.

This is a bit of an identical twin to the 16 Year Old, I must say. But more powerful due to the cask strength. Thanks for the generous sample, Raphael!
