This is the third and final Auchentoshan bottled by Hart Brothers. Again I owe thanks to my whisky buddy Michael from Duitsland, who sent me all three samples. Like the 11 Year Old and 13 Year Old that I tried before, this 16 Year Old is cut to 46%.
It has a soft floral nose on loads of straw. Lemongrass and flowers in the field. It is less sharp than its younger brothers and a bit more fruity. The citrus, grapefruit and melon are more pronounced. I even get some mango and juicy pineapple. A hint of nougat. A bit more spices as well. Think white pepper and vanilla, upholstered with some liquorice.
It arrives very softly, but still punchy. The spices speak first, followed by loads of sweet fruits, juicy and full. Icing sugar, nuts and some oak make it a complete picture.
The finish is rather long and spicy.
Despite the modest ABV, this is an Auchentoshan that puts a smile on my face. A veritable spring whisky.
