The Bottle Your Own programme from Auchentoshan currently boasts not one, but two casks. Yoav Gelbfish from Israel visited the distillery, bottled from bourbon cask 11030 and graciously offered to send me a sample. The worldwide whisky community really is village, eh? Thanks, Yoav! Or, to use your language, ?????.
Boy, from the initial whiff alone you can tell this is going to be a cracker. Succulent and sweet nose on vanilla, sultanas, almond paste, white grapefruit and Graeffe (light brown) sugar. Nice touch from the oak. It has something rummy and bourbonny at the same time, that is really very pleasant. A wonderful floral side makes this a top notch Auchentoshan. Excellent start!
It is creamy and mouth coating, but does not scorch despite the high ABV. Almost syrupy. Barley sugar, white and yellow fruit, mildly tropical notes of papaya. Well-seasoned too. Maple syrup. Milk chocolate, coconut. Pepper and nutmeg.
Very long finish, in which the spices and the sweetness alternately vie for your attention.
Wow! Great Auchentoshan. I hope the cask is still available when I visit Glasgow in a few weeks. I need me a bottle of this one!

Another good set of reviews, always enjoy reading them. I was at the distillery at the end of last year and got to choose between a 1996 (don't have a cask number) and a 1999. I was really impressed by both casks but the general consensus was that the 1999 was the better.
I went for the 1999 and it was a cracking dram, it made me wonder why we don't see more OB single cask releases of this age when they obviously have quality casks.
On a side point the tour and the staff were both excellent.
