During the last edition of my by now infamous Toshan Man Birthday Tastings, I opened this official oldie. This 18 Year Old from 1988 is a single cask that was bottled exclusively for Belgium. It is a gem, trust me.

The nose is surprisingly delicate and sweet on grain cookies sprinkled with light brown sugar, lots of nuts, vanilla, chocolate with praline filling and a single slice of lime.

The arrival is powerful, but not scorching. Good mouth feel. Contrary to the nose, I now get mostly citrus (think grapefruit, mandarin and lime) with some touches of oak and a bit of white fruit. Pineapple shines through. Surprisingly fresh.

The finish is medium to long, with a mild bitterness as if from pink grapefruit at the death.

Unfortunately this one is very hard to find these days and has become pretty expensive too. I bought it way back for 80 EUR, but saw it last for 300 EUR. Crazy. But very tasty.
