The boys and girls of the Flander’s Finest Cask Selection visited the warehouses of Andrew Symington and his team at Signatory once more. One of the casks that they selected to bottle – much to my happiness is this 18 Year Old Auchentoshan. It is a single cask that yielded 227 bottles in their famous Un-Chillfiltered Collection, meaning it was cut to 46%.

From the very first whiff, this Lowlander paints a smile on my face. This is homecoming for me. Buttercups, gooseberries, pineapple, pears, hint of unripe kiwi, lemongrass and lime juice. The summer is coming that this Auchentoshan arrived just in time.

The arrival is surprisingly sturdy. Quite spicy, in fact. White pepper and licquorice. Then again some white fruit and citrus (grapefruit kicks in) on icing sugar and – again – gooseberries.

Despite the fact that the finish is rather short, it is very pleasant with its feisty spices. It’s as if I’m licking a slice of lemon that was dipped in pepper. I love it!

This is clearly family of the Auchentoshan 2000 that was bottled in 2016 and composed from bourbon barrels 800023 and 800024. It’s bigger brother, say. 95 EUR a bottle? I’ll take two, please.
