After the Laing brothers split up, Stuart founded his own company Hunter Laing & Co and one of the brands he took with him is the famous Old Malt Cask, in which single casks are bottled at 50%. This Auchentoshan from 1997 is just a few months shy of two decades.

Fresh, but spicy nose on citrus, icing sugar, vanilla and a suprising large amount of coconut.

Good body. Again spicy on white pepper and ginger. The fruit on duty is still lemon and lime and the icing sugar returns. A nice continuation of the nose, but not very complex. But who cares, when it’s good.

The finish is short to medium long with more citrus and a return of the coconut.

Fairly straightforward whisky from my favorite distillery. Typical spring whisky.
