Knowing that there are no casks from 1970 left at the distillery, this is probably the only way for me to enjoy an Auchentoshan from my year of birth. So I am going to sit down and take my time for this one. Look at how dark this is!

The nose is dark and honeysweet. All kinds of dried fruit: plums, raisins, apricots. Then a good dollop of juicy honey and a hint of espresso. Apparently quite a few sherry casks went into the mix for this vintage. I get some vanilla and cinnamon. This is a very lovely nose from Auchentoshan. Delicate, yet deep, if you catch my meaning. I love it!

Good body. Nicely oily. Round and tasty. The sherry immediately puts its foot down. This even reminds me a bit of Glenfarclas. Wonderfully sweet fruit from the dark side (did you see what I did there, fellow Star Wars fans?) with mild spices like cinnamon and soft pepper. Succulent!

My only point of criticism is the fact that the finish is so darn short.

I could not get it confirmed, but I could swear that this vintage 1970 consists solely (or mostly) of oloroso sherry cask matured Auchentoshan. Great Toshan that has become quite unaffordable. Thanks, Michael!
