I honestly think the Cask Strength Collection of Signatory looks beautiful. Those decanters may take up a lot of space in my cabinet, but they look robust and powerful. Only downside: they are awkward to pour from. In 2016 this 23 years old Auchentoshan from the top year 1992 appeared. I am convinced this is going to be a lovely Lowlander.

Fresh, somewhat green nose bursting with citrus, grass and vanilla. Add some crème brûlée as well as some… errr… mustard! But after a few moments some beautiful fruity notes kick in with mango, green bananas and something of papaya. This reminds me of the better Irish stuff.

It is almost creamy on the palate and immediately wonderfully sweet on mango, banana, lime, guava and pineapple. Yes, this is a quasi-tropical fruit bomb. Nicely spiced on ginger, liquorice and some pepper. A hint of nutmeg. Midpalate some drying oak appears, but it cannot undo the fruitiness of this Auchentoshan. Feisty!

The finish is neither short nor long. Something in between. But very fruity and fresh and pleasant.

Top dram. Not complex, but quasi-tropical at perfect strength. Clean, sweet and delicious. 1992, keep that in mind.
