This Malts of Scotland bottling was released at the end of last year. I am trying it only now, so that I can put it head-to-head with a more recent Auchentoshan release by the same bottler. This one was distilled in December 1984 and bottled in December 2012, making it a 28 Year Old Auchentoshan. It matured on a bourbon barrel that yielded 189 bottles.
The nose is typical Auchentoshan. Delicate and light on citrus and vanilla. Freshly cut grass. Mild spices. A touch of mint. A bit floral: lavender and rose petals. Lively and fresh nose.
While the palate starts of pretty nice, it suddenly turns a bit soapy. The lavender and rose petals from the nose evolve too much. Pity.
The finish is medium long and mildly spicy on white pepper and ginger.
It reminds me mostly of the Auchentoshan 1984 from Master of Malt, although not as bad. But it is perfumy, too much to be really good. Unfortunately (?) not available in Belgium, but in the surrounding countries you can buy it for around 130 EUR.
