This week I will try 7 independent Auchentoshan head to head. Let me start with this Dun Bheagan Lowland. The Dun Bheagan range is put to market by Ian Macleod Distillers and contains single malts 8 years of age, bottled without chill filtration at 43% ABV. All regions are represented, and this is their Lowland expression.
The nose is dominated by malt, grass and citrus. All typical for Auchentoshan, but in this case it is rather simple and flat. It even has an unpleasant side that I can only describe as goat cheese.
On the palate, it takes a turn for the worse. Citrus, sure, but some sharp and sourish kills it completely for me.
The finish offers nothing new and makes me yearn for a glass of water.
Well, I hate to say it, but this is a weak whisky in general and a Toshan that leaves a lot to be desired. You would do well to spend that 30 EUR elsewhere.
