That Boutique-y Whisky Company – part of Master of Malt – has just released its third Auchentoshan, but this one is special in that regards that it mentions an age of 25 years on the label. That could mean it was distilled around 1992, which is a very good year for Auchentoshan. But the year of distillation is not mentioned on the label and TBWC is known for creating these releases with cask ends. So while the youngest in the mix must be from the early 1990s, it may in fact contain older whisky.

Malty nose with a hint of candied fruit, but quite grainy in fact. Apple sauce and rhubarb marmalade. Some grapefruit and orange marmalade. Nice nose, but I am not flabbergasted.

Quite oily in the mouth with a good spiciness. Lots of grasses. Floral touches that flirt with soapiness. This does not remind me of 1992, but rather of the period 1984-1987 when Auchentoshan was indeed quite soapy (as was Bowmore, for that matter).

The finish is rather short, which might not be so bad in this case.

This one was pointed out to me as a great Auchentoshan, but to be honest, it is not really my cup of tea. And forking over more than 100 EUR for a half liter bottle is just too much.
