Auchentoshan Distillery Visit - the videos

My latest visit to the Lowlander sees Senior Blender Jeremy Stephens explain the production process in this video: www.youtube.com/watch. On another note: I fooled around in the Blender's Room myself, playing with 8 cask samples to created my very own 'Toshan Man 1975' single malt. Check it out at www.youtube.com/watch. Hope you like them. A third video of the Bottle Your Own programme coming soon!

A once in a life time experience - or as my Dad would say, a memory in the bank is much better than money in the bank ! How much money did you put in the brown envelope to "pay off security"? Great Vid.

These 2 videos are great. I really enjoyed to visit of the Toshan distillery. Great comments on how the whisky is made and triple distilled at this distillery. 2 thumbs up to the guide ! and of course to you markjedi1! I have a question though: Why do you call your single malt a blended or vatted malt? Since it is made from 8 casks of 1975 whisky, isn't it a 1975 single malt?

@JoeVelo Yes, indeed, it's simply a single malt. I was just flabbergasted to be able to do this and had to improvise on the spot without any kind of preparation. Only afterwards did I realise it was of course simply a single malt. But it all had to be done in one take... Jeremy wasn't going to allow me to fool around with these precious cask samples again, after all! Thanks for the kinds words, all!

@Markjedi1, Great videos!

Every Summer I really get into Lowlanders due to their clean, citrus, and clean notes. I am now getting on board with you on the 'Toshans. My current favorite Lowland is the Glenkinchie 20. Can you recommend a Toshan that's similar to that? Does Auchentoshan have any offerings that's above ABV 50%?

Thanks again.

@whiskyshiba I admit to never having tried the Glenkinchie 20, so it's kinda hard to make any kind of comparison. But there are plenty of Toshans over 50%, if that's your fancy. In case you are into Toshan during summer and above 'regular drinking strength' (whatever that means), you might want to give the Auchentoshan Valinch a try. It's the Classic on cask strength, 57,5%. Others with a ABV over 50 from the top of my head: 1988 Bordeaux Wine Finish (52,4%), 1998 Sherry Cask (54,6%), 1999 Wine Cask Matrued WoW Exclusive (58,2%), 1999 Bordeaux Cask Matured (58%, released this week) and the Distillery Exclusive 2009 Festival Bottle (56,5%). Plenty to choose from, all delicious!

@whiskyshiba Can they all be found in California? I hope so. I'll be on the lookout for your tasting notes, then. Especially the Valinch is good value imho. In the UK, less than £40 (approx $60).

@markjedi1, They are all difficult to find here in California. I special ordered the 17YR Bordeaux, and a 19YR CS by A.D.Rattray.

Looks like Serge Valentin likes the 'Toshan 1998 as well for Summer :)
