So what better way to warm up than with a dram or two. But, while we are on the subject of temperature, what's the best for whisky? I mean in the glass not outside.

There's plenty of consensus on wine but less information for whisky drinkers. OK so we know not too cold if you want to actually taste it. But how do you guys prefer to drink it?

My thoughts are it depends on the dram in question. For example for a Laphroiag Quarter Cask room temperature seems best to me. But for a Glenfarclas 15 I find a degree or two warmer works, a bit like brandy, it releases those citrus and sherry notes.

I like to warm the glass in my hand a little before drinking (I guess to just above room temperature, but a little below body temperature). I find it opens up the nose nicely.

I heard that some put stones, which they cool in the freezer, in their whisky (weird, I know). Just to avoid to add ice. I prefer room temperature (without stones and/or ice, maybe a drop of water), and as Piero mentioned, it depend on the dram :-)

israel is a hot country. summers are above 30C daytime and around 26 night time. so i guess my perfect temp is 18-19 deg. (AC or winter with no heating)

@WimDH, whisky stones weird? Hmm, I prefer that method to adding ice. Besides, hence 'on the rocks', because the old Scots - before the freezer was invented - actually took stones from the riverbed to cool their whisky. Check out www.whivie.be/waterofijs.html (third image from the top). Some distilleries actually sell nice sets of these stones (example Scapa 16 Year Old gift pack).

I'm finding I enjoy my whisky warmed in hand using a snifter. Cold whisky touching my palate seems to be competing to be noticed with already warmed taste buds. Warmed whisky and a naturally warmed palate seem to simultaneously compliment each sip.
