The Highland distillery Balblair stopped bottling with an age statement years ago, but now uses vintages (thus mentioning the year of distillation). This Balblair 2005 was released in December 2015 as the successor to the Balblair 2003. It is fair to assume that this is ten years old.
Light nose on wilde flowers, vanilla, white chocolate and green apples. A touch of pepper and some leather. Mandarin and lime kick in. Hint of a sea breeze.
Fresh on the palate with a prickle of the spices. Think white pepper and baking spices. Then the sweet fruit rears its head. Mostly citrus, peel included. Vanilla and toffee. The whole softens up and becomes very light.
The finish is rather short, but very fresh and summery.
A lovely summer dram, with no frills. Between 40 and 50 EUR. Thanks, Pat!
