@InGreatSpirits Consider yourself fortunate to be going to Houston. The shere size of our urban sprawl guarantees a massive number of stores. The top 5 in no particular order: 1. Downtown Specs - enormous, has one of the largest selections you will ever see. Scotch and whiskey selection are second to few. No BTAC because it will be allocated based on their loyalty program.
NASA Liquor Clearlake - Out of this world if you do not mind the pun. This smaller store punches well above its weight. They specialize in bourbon and scotch and carry many impossible to find bottles sold without markup. Downside is it is a bit of a drive to get to, but if you visit Kemah or NASA you have an excuse.
Goody Goody Katy - Relative new comer in the large chain liquor stores and also out of the way, but also might be largest store in the city. Best chance for BTAC and they also carry many other things. Start talking whiskey with the right people there and you'd be surprised what comes out of the back.
Village Liquor off of Wirt. This guy will have BTAC but prepare to pay marked up rates. But the store also carries many older and newer rare bottles at reasonable costs.
My house. Just look at my cabinet =]. There are a few other stores worth checking out during BTAC season, but I can't go and give out all the secrets.

Thanks for the great feedback @newreverie and no worries on keeping those secret spots to yourself, I would probably do the same. Nasa was on my list of places to hit so I'll make sure to add the others as well. And given more free time during a future trip, I'll definitely have to stop by that 4th option with some samples in hand. Thanks again.

@InGreatSpirits If you are only in town for a short time. I propose we meet up at Reserve 101 www.reserve101.com
Just send me a message when you plan to be in Houston.

As an unfortunate byproduct of my job, I do a lot of traveling during the fall bourbon release season which takes me away from my go-to liquor stores. This fall has me visiting St. Louis, Pittsburgh, and Houston and I was wondering if people had recommendations for the best liquor stores in those areas. I'm not necessarily looking for the Pappy's and BTAC (although if I found one, awesome), more so stores with all around great selections, some good private barrel selections, localized offerings, etc.
