Braunstein has two ranges of single malt: the Library Collection has a yearly peated and unpeated release, numbered quite simple. 15:1 for example is the first release of 2015. The second range is the Edition Series, in which some single cask expressions appear at cask strength. I will try the first releases of the Library Collection, starting with the unpeated version. This Danish single malt matured on both bourbon and sherry casks.

The nose is young yet not sharp. Very interesting in fact, for it immediately offers a nice mix of fruit and chocolate. I am reminded of Cadbury’s Fruit & Nut Chocolate tablet with raisins, strawberries, almonds and milk chocolate. There is some toasted oak in there as well. Touch of woodsmoke and some garden herbs. This is good. Quite complex if you ask me.

Quite mouthcoating with a good strength. The palate is honeysweet from the fruit, upholstered with juicy oranges and sweet cherries. The spices are a bit louder now. Think pepper and nutmeg. This is good!

The finish has a decent length in which the pepper and oranges have the final word.

Terrific surprice on the nose, good palate and sweet finish. This is a dessert whisky from the High North. One of the better non-Scotch NAS-expressions I have had the pleasure to try.
