The Magnificent Five, whisky lovers from West Flanders, came up with this sherry matured Bunnahabhain from 2009. After 13 years on a sherry hogshead, that yielded 178 bottles at 55%. I used to find the combo sherry and peat very difficult. But practice makes perfect. Nowadays I even find sherry and peat something to look forward to or even actively look for. A nose that is bursting with dark sweet notes such as plums and figs, butterscotch and Ricola cough candy, but also brings with it a cartload of antique furniture, tarragon and maggimix herbs. Woodsmoke, roasted chestnuts and leather with a salty edge... Yes, this is great. Full-bodied, almost creamy, it caresses the taste buds with salted caramel, garden herbs, sugared orange peels, origin chocolate, salted caramel, candy syrup and plum jam. There should be no water at all. Feel free to take a seat to enjoy this intensely. Hallelujah, that finish is excellent. Long, spicy, smoky and absolutely satisfying. Water? No, thank you. Give me just another drop of this Bunna! Congratulations, Magnificent Five, on this cask choice. And thank you for allowing me to buy myself a bottle immediately. That's going to guide me through the harsh winter months.
