Whiskyclub Ypenburg from Holland was founded in 2014 by a guy named Ruud. By now, they host monthly tastings. In 2016 they launched their first club bottling – a 23 years old Bunnahabhain, bottled in collaboration with Crom. Let’s give that one a go.

Fresh nose on apples, peach and freshly polished leather. Then turns a bit sweet and sour as if from a grapefruit and candy. A note of wood and peat. Some late almond shavings. This is a surprisingly delicate nose, but very nice at the same time.

It is surprisingly salty on the palate. Brackish water out of which the sweet fruit tries to rise, but it takes quite a bit of effort. Softly spicy on white pepper and some cloves. The fruit evolves from European to almost tropical with hints of quince, lime and even kiwi. The peat offers up some soft smoke. Leather and nuts return. Very nice.

The finish is long, in which sweet and salt go head to head. Apples and liquorice at the death.

Lovely Bunna indeed, the members of the club should be proud.
