And while we are at it… might as well continue with The Whisky Jury’s new releases. For next to his latest excellent Ledaig 2010 on oloroso, he also released this 13 years old Bunnahabhain, also from an oloroso cask. It’s a Staoisha, meaning peaty Bunna.

Oh, my! Wonderfully greasy and surprisingly sweet nose on earth, nettles and even a bicycle tire, but also apricot marmalade, quince and Granny Smith. It even turns a bit candy-like and it works. There is even a slight metallic hint and some pencil shavings in the backgroun giving it some luster.

Oily and mouth coating. Fish oil and pig on a spit mixed with orange juice! Grand smokiness, big peppery note, ashes and peat, vanilla… the works! This is becoming quite the party. The spiciness increases while the smoke decreases and the extra sweet notes vye for your attention. Good balance, good strength.

The finish is long, starts sweet and end… even more sweet. The smoke slowly fades and puts a smile on my face.

Peat and sherry… I’ve often said that I don’t always find it an easy combination, but I think it’s time to update that quote. It has become, to me, a combo that hardly goes wrong.
