Feinkost Reifferscheid is a family run delicatessen in Bonn, Germany, founded in 1890 and run today by Bärbel and Lutz Reiferscheid. Since 1993 they also sell whisky. From time to time they bottle some for their shop as well as for the whiskyclub Friends of Single Malt Bonn, which the couple founded in 2002. In 2017 they selected this young Bunna that, after a maturation of 9 years on a bourbon cask, got a finish on a fresh sherry octave for another 9 monhts.

Soft nose on orchard fruit (think apples and pears), but with an underlying note of rotting plants. A bit dirty, but not offensive. Furthermore there is a note of sour candy and lime juice. A drop of olive oil. The finish on the sherry cask adds a touch of peach and sultana, but also a hint of struck match.

It is surprisingly soft n the palate, but also very bright if you know what I mean. White and yellow fruit, white pepper, some oak and smoke. Midpalate it turns very sweet on peach and mandarin. The peat is under control, but prominent.

The finish is quite lovely: warm, spicy, sweet and sour and peaty.

Great young Bunna, although the nose took some getting used to.
