Dominated by 2003 Ardbeg (as i've heard), and some Caol Ila and some clynelish this is a lovely very peaty compass box, Islay centric for sure. far peatier than the peat monster.

nose: Big notes of ash, dried lemon, lime, and wet dog (yes, love it), it's clearly dominated by the Ardbeg and the zest... I am thinking tarry ropes, and seashell. There's a wee hint of grapfruit pith, and sweet smoky cereals. with a bit of water it gets creamier with some vanilla.

Palate: Boom. We're certainly on Islay now : lovely wood smoke and peat embers, sweet smoke, pines, citrus peel and more of the wet farmy note (dog if you may), BBQ sauce, and creamy vanilla. there's a medicinal touch and some tar, but the Ardbeg is well felt..

Finish: distant ash, soot, peat , wet cardboard , tar and creamy vanilla.

This is one of the recent Compass Box releases that's captured more than just my passing attention. Anyone seen what prices are being asked for it in the US?

@MadSingleMalt I saw it for $146 at my local shop...which normally has pretty good prices. Crazy pricey but I think about buying it all the time haha. I just might!

@themonza, thanks. That's close the price that K&L was recently pushing on their national blog ($140), so I guess that's about the going rate these days.

I suppose that price sounds about right these days for mostly ~15-year Ardbeg at a decent proof. But it's more than I'd spend on it!
