After the fantastic 26 Year Old, I got me a sample of a 27 Year Old from the same Rare Auld series by Duncan Taylor, also distilled in 1981 but matured for an additional year.

Ha, the nose is almost identical, although the aromas are presented in a different order (does that make sense?). First I get the furniture polish, then tropical fruit. Kiwi signs in. It is a little less waxy than its younger brother and lacks the coconut. But if offers pineapple instead. Again a tremendously aromatic nose.

Oily and spicy. Spicier than its predecessor with chili pepper and nutmeg. Nice warm apple pie. Baked banana. Gooseberries and pink grapefruit. Yes, this is clearly a twin of cask 421 that I tried before. It can take some water, but I feel it needs none.

In the long and warming finish, I get a whiff of smoke, while the warm fruit fades gently.

While I feel cask 421 was more complex, they are so close that it would be unfair to give this one a lesser score. Excellent Dallas Dhu! Thanks, Pieter.
