I will be traveling through glasgow airport in the near future. I've looked online and discovered that I can preorder something through world of whiskey or just go once I get there. Has anyone flown through glasgow duty free? Any suggestions?

Also, the 1L duty free restriction coming into canada is just horrific. Brutal.

I've not been through Glasgow recently, but my advice would be to not preorder. Go and have a browse and ask to try things. Don't be pressured into the 'travel retail exclusive' bottles unless you're sure it's for you.

I don't know anything about Glasgow specifically, but if they're like most "duty free" airport stores, they'll have 98% crap and a couple nice bottles from Bruichladdich.

On the site they have a few age statements. 21 yo glenfiddich. They have signet, which I want to try.

@Ol_Jas And they won't be much, if any, cheaper than you could buy them on the street.

@nooch I travel through Manchester twice a year and always have an allowance for whisky. If there is something you specifically want pre-order it, then no worrying about stock issues.

The prices for the age statement whisky or well known NAS e.g. Signet, Uigeadail, Corryvreckan etc are similar to U.K. High street but probably cheaper than Canadian stores.

I always try two or three samples at store they have a tasting station if the lay out is similar to Manchester but it has the bottles they are trying to push on it. Get talking to a rep and make it clear what you like and want and they have sample bottles under the shelves if they think you are serious they will let you try what they have but do not expect sample bottles of everything. Tried the Glenlivet 21 and Talisker 57 north over last 2 years and spend between £150 and £200 a visit.

@Ol_Jas is spot on with the Bruichladdich had both the CC01 and the Laddie 8 tried and bought at Manchester and will be picking up the CC01 again this month.

Some travel retail has Talisker 57. That's a good find for folks who live where that's not sold (USA).

As for Bruichladdich, look out for their Octomores too! Some of those are only in travel retail anymore. If I had $200+ to blow on a bottle, one of those X.2s or whatever would be a fine choice.

@Ol_Jas love Octomore. I have a bottle of the 7.3 and it's amazing. I'm hoping to find a bottle of their distillery limited release. It's apparently stocked in a whisky shop in Dufftown. I'm heading to Speyside for a week so I have to be thoughtful about what I bring back because duty returning to Ontario is ludicrous. 59% duty above and beyond your allowance. Sickens me.

i haven't passed through Glasgow duty free but uk airports are normally good for whisky shopping, i expect a major airport in Scotland to be well stocked. i'd keep my options open and see what is available on the day
