A 28 years old Fettercairn! This was distilled in the year yours truly became of age. I had actually tried this before in the 2018 edition of the Proefolympics (Dutch tasting competition), thinking it was a Braeval. Anyway, I got hold of another sample and will gladly give it another go.

Ha! This really is a good nose, albeit a bit weird at the first whiff because of some plastic carrybags and rubber. But that is followed quickly by yellow apples, light honey, candlewax and white chocolate. Some sunflowers and peanuts. Olive oil and pine nuts. Together that makes for a very complex and entertaining nose!

It’s quite oily and silky soft on the palate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. Nicely fruity on apricots, peach, mango and pineapple. Yes, this turns very good indeed! Caramel, woodsmoke, beeswax, peanuts, pepper and coriander. Impressive. Very rich and round.

On the finish the fruit evolves towards the candied variety, mildly drying and spicy.

Yes, this is a gem of a Fettercairn.
