No Sherry? Good. No sherry = no sulphur problems, which Forty Creek Barrel Select has. 43% ? Well, even an itty bitty little increase in concentration of flavours is better than none. It's a start. Thanks for your review, @Megawatt.

Interesting about sulpher in Barrel Select. Jim Murray noticed it too, but I've never detected it and I'm usually quite sensitive to such flavours. In any case I like this whisky more every time I drink it. This has already become a staple for me, which is unusualy since I seldom buy the same bottle twice in one month.

I looked for sulphur in my own bottle of Barrel Select and didn't find it at all...for a few months. Then the sulphur came out in spades and really wrecked the whisky. Interestingly, a few months after that the sulphur effect greatly diminished, leaving the whisky drinkable again. I will probably do a review of it soon, myself.

I picked up a new bottle of this and I must say, the balance has really gone out the window. I find it sickly sweet, with a distinct taste of cheap sherry. The finish is also sour. Quite disappointing.

I don't know if it's sulphur in the Barrel Select, but the last few bottles I've sipped from had a distinct soapy/perfume note that was quite unpleasant. I liked the Copper Pot the last few times I've had it. But it's been awhile...I may have to revisit this one.

I'm finding this bottle quite crummy, and I wouldn't recommend it. If I rated it again it would barely break the 70s.
