It all depends on the brand and expression.
For some you'll get a majority of 3 year old grain in the mix, others you'll get very old whisky - Isle of Skye do a 50yo blend...
For the 'regular' blends (Grouse, Teacher's, Bell's) you'll probably find that it's 3-8 years old, although there will be a range of ages in the mix and it will change over time.

The old lochside distillery had an interesting way of making single blend whisky, they did not mix different caks, they mixed the spirits of both malt and grain in a cask before the the riping process and let them mature together

I have seen that 95% of whisky production goes to blends and only 5% to single malt sales. Does anyone know at what ages the whisky is sent to the blend companies for production? Does this vary greatly? Is their a typical range? Any insight is appreciated!
