The Glen Elgin distillery is located about 3 kilometres south of the town with the same name, a stone’s throw away from BenRiach and Longmorn. The production is destined for the White Horse blends. Hence that is the logo to be found on the stillhouse’s wall. We will try a bottling by Signatory at a very high strength. Where is my bottle of water?

The nose is sweet and fruity, but piquant. All sorts of yellow fruit, tropical, breaks through slowly. Citrus, pineapple, mango. Reminds me a bit of those summer fruit salads my kids often put together. Some caramel too. Syrup as if from tinned fruit. Very pleasant. Water makes it a little less tropical and even offers a grassy side. Nuts, as well.

On the palate too, it is piquant and spicy. This is to be expected. But the tropical fruit emerges immediately, wonderfully sweet and succulent. A bit of woodspice and light tannins take care of the balanced. A bit syrupy. Diluted, it remains wonderfully sweet. It can take water, no problem.

The finish is long and warm. Honeysweet on pineapple, cinnamon and oak, even with water.

This is a very fruity Glen Elgin for the summer, which surprised me very pleasantly. And it is a swimmer. Thanks, Jan, for the sample. I would like another one for when the sun comes out again.
