I will finish up my series of Glen Garioch with a special one. This is an old Glen Garioch, from the 70s of the previous century, bottled for the Italian importer Lemar from Bologna. It is bottled in what we call a brown dumpy bottle. Only 8 years old and something of a cult whisky.

The nose is not completely devoid of OBE. Not uncommon after more than three decades in a bottle. Sneakers and old newspapers. This needs to breath. After a few minutes I get dried flowers, grass and lime tea. Slowly but surely it becomes very creamy. Subtle resin. Almost no smoke to sepak of, but you can tell it is there. Some eucalyptus, as well.

On the palate, it is quite a different story. Very drying and sharply spiced. Clearly peated now. Again tea, but rather black tea. I cannot call this good. Probably too long in a bottle that was too far gone already.

The finish is long and warming.

It tastes a bit like the way a model looks when she retires: you know it was a beauty once, but those days are long gone. Pity.
