Great afternoon today, a friend of mine brought me a new single malt for my increasing cabinet...it's a strange stuff, a 10 years old Glen Grant, with a flat bottle (similar to the strathisla one) and a label that says "special distillery reserve"...I thus humbly ask information to our experts panel! :)

Well, its always nice to receive any whisky as a gift. I've not tried Glen Grant but from what I read its a very popular brand in Italy.

@LeFrog yes you can find their 5 years old expression in all supermarkets...I don't like it very much, but here we lack a real whisky culture, so this is often the only single malt you manage to find in a pub or bar...luckily in the last months I've been seeing Talisker, Glenfiddich, Macallan, even Lagavulin and Caol Ila around, but when you have to choose between a basic four roses or JW (red label) and a cheap single malt you will be happy to drink a Glen Grant...this bottle I had instead is a 10 years old, I tasted it yesterday, nothing special, but better than the 5yo...

People seem to like their whisky quite young in Italy - I understand that Macallan do an 8 year old which is only available in there.

@LeFrog most whisky lovers Ii spoke to didn't even know about single malts, also if they have been drinking scotch for fifteen years...and obviously most of them completely changed their mind once tasted a glass of talisker or something similar...maybe scottish brands sell their youngest expressions also because they're cheaper. You know, when people think that Chivas or Jack Daniel's it's the best stuff in the world it is difficult to sell a 40/50 euro single malt, but they will probably dare buy a Macallan 8 years (as I did, it was my first single malt), that here is priced 18 euro...
