Glen Grants is a distillery I came to late in my drinking career, but have an increasing respect and admiration for through the purity of their spirit and lack of complication in maturation. This was bottled in 2008 so should be about 16 years old, although there is no information on the label concerning casks I’m assuming it’s been matured in mainly plain wood and bourbon casks given the colour and flavour profile.
The aroma holds a cornucopia of fruit, aspects of grapefruit, mango and melon appear to me, a whiff of honey helps them combine together. The first sip reveals a medium bodied dram with a tart attack, fruit again but there is more of a spicy vanilla profile with some herby hints thrown in. All very subtle and delicious. The finish is dry and spicy with more vanilla and this time pepper makes a strong showing, by this stage the fruit is missing.
