The German bottler Liquid Treasures released this 20 years old Glen Grant in their so-called ‘Fairy Tales’ series. It matured on a bourbon hogshead and was bottled at a cask strength of 54.4% ABV.

The nose immediately stands out with a truckload of light brown sugar – the kid’s sugar that we put on pancakes. Then some apple juice with a few drops of lime juice in the mix. Ice Tea! That’s what I am reminded of… Some oak and banana, dried grasses, wilde spring flowers. The only off-note, if you can call it that, is a hint of potato skins. Other than that: very pleasant indeed!

Despite the high ABV, it is quite quaffable. Very spice, true, on ginger, vanilla, pepper and a hint of mint. I taste apple cider and sugared citrus peel. Good continuation of the nose. Luckily no trace of the potato skins.

The finish is very long an feisty, wonderfully sweet and warm. It dies on apples and vanilla.

Very good Glen Grant, although I do prefer the sherry matured expressions of this Speysider.
