Signatory Vintage is one of the busiest independent bottlers and in their Cask Strength Collection – in those fantastically beautiful decanters – they have bottled quite a few gems already. I wonder how this Glen Grant from 1992 will fare.

While the nose starts rather closed, it does open up with some hand warmth and patience. It shows a lot of yellow fruit (mirabelles, pineapples, Reine Claude), caramel and vanilla and some almond paste. Summery, it makes me long for the sun again.

While I had expected a little more body, it is quite mouth coating and prickly. Immediately white pepper, cardamom and liquorice, followed by white fruit (now it’s all apples with a hint of pear). Less exotic than the nose promised, but still good. Towards the end it becomes a little more bitter as if from grapefruit or a grape pith you have just crushed between your teeth.

The finish is long, warm, spicy and bittersweet;

Very nice, but in all honesty I had expected a little more.
