This is not the First Glen Ord that is bottled by Malts of Scotland. Last year I tasted a very nice 11 Year Old and only recently a slightly less 15 Year Old, both from the same house. This 12 Year Old, just like its predecessors, matured on a bourbon hogshead. This one is much darker than the last one, though.

The nose is reluctant, but after some hand warmth I get a nice perfume of young pears, grains, toffee and kiwi (that is a first!). Slightly dusty with fresh wood shavings. Candlewax. Touch of saffron. Do I detect a trace of smoke there? Surprisingly complex.

The attack is sweet and prickly. Gingerbread with marzipan. Sweet pretzels. Ginger and some pepper. Gets rather dark with leather and wax. Banana flambé. Does not need water, though.

The finish… ah… nice and long continuation of the wonderful palate.

This Glen Ord makes me smile because of the nose alone. Blind, I would give him at least 5 years more. For only 50 EUR, I daresay you should get a bottle.
