Glen Scotia Fiddler's Choice

So, had the chance to sample Glen Scotia "Fiddler's Choice Rare Handcrafted Cape Breton Single Malt Whisky" last night. It's OK...definitely young, with a light flavour reminiscent of some Japanese malts I've tried. Drinkable but not something I'd go out of my way for.

I'm assuming you mean Glen Breton? If so, your "drinkable but not something I'd go out of my way for" statement is how I'd describe two of their other expressions too: Glen Breton Rare 10 Yr Old and Glen Breton Ice Wine Finish. Considering the praise I've heard for their 10 Yr Old I was a bit disappointed.

Glen Breton 10 YO was the first malt review video Ralfy put up on his website in 2009. He gave it a 87. I've since seen him give better whiskies the same score. I remember buying some (before I had heard of ralfy) because I thought if they had to change their name the bottle would be worth something. Oh well.

The contents certainly are not worth the price I paid for them. @Nelom I did warn you...

The distillery is in fact GLENORA and this new expression is 43% just like the 10 YO rare, but NAS, so I have no expectations from it.

I could've sworn I already entered this reply... Another forum glitch? Or maybe I forgot to hit the button.

@Nozinan Yeah, you DID warn me, I remember. :) I'm just thankful I didn't pay $80 a bottle to find out for sure.

@Nelom Yes, Glen Breton. But on the bottle, it just states "Fiddler's Choice Cape Breton Handcrafted Single Malt Whisky," with the word "Rare" on the neck--no mention of the actual distiller. Google told me it was Glen Breton (or I guess properly Glenora), and that it's a 6 year old single malt, aged in ex-bourbon casks.

I found it rather bland and watery, no real flavour profile at all (at least that I could discern). Judging from some other people's reactions, though, this is the kind of whisky that non whisky drinkers can accept.

As a violinist (regardless of my skill) I do not think this would be my choice.
