Global Wineries is a Belgian company specialized in the import of wines, since 1 januari 2004. They just bottled this whisky to celebrate their first ten years. It is a Glenburgie from the Gordon & Macphail stables, that I encountered at the Whisky Festival for Independent Bottlers.

The nose starts off closed and needs a lot of time to give up its secrets. But it is worth the wait. White fruit, both fresh and stewed, comes first. A hint of green banana. Gooseberries with a bit of good will. Something like hay. Of dried grass at the least. Touch of ginger, pinch of pepper.

On the palate, it is a whole different story. Powerful and spicy (ginger, pepper, liquorice) and it dances on the tongue. The fruit is much more outspoken. Besides the white stewed fruit, I also get hints of yellow fruit. Apricots. Peach, maybe? No trace of the gooseberries anymore.

The finish is very spicy and fades ever so gently.

A nice Glenburgie that again proves that this is an underappreciated malt.
