In 2015 the successor of the so-called Darth Vader hit the market. This Yoda, because of the color of the label reminds you of the lightsaber (or is it his skin?) of the diminutive Jedi Master, matured on oloroso sherry casks for 12 years. It was destined for the Danish market. Again a limited edition of 3.000 bottles and by now quite the collectible, it seems.

Very juicy, sweet sherried nose full of dades and raisins, a hint of overripe cherries and orange marmalade. Very waxy too. It has a hint of varnish. Tobacco leaves. Quite alright! If you leave it to breath for long it also gets a green edge as if from squashed ferns. No joke.

It is honeysweet and very spicy on the palate, but unfortunately the body is somewhat light. Especially if you put it right behind the Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. Next to the dades and raisins I now also get some blueberries and a hint of bitter oranges. Becomes more spicy with the second sip. The third… well now, let’s just say that it flirts a little with sulpher. Luckily within the acceptable.

On the medium long finish, it is all about the oak. It suppresses the fruit somewhat and gives the floor to the spices. It leaves your mouth dry.

I do not like to admit it, but I prefer the (much cheaper) GlenDronach 12 Original. Thanks, Sven!
