From a first fill oloroso cask, bottled in 2010
Nose: Given the high ABV this is very smooth, no water needed. The nose is rich xmas cake, plenty of fruit and sherry, plums prunes apples pears rasins some toffee, all the good stuff. Then things go a little weird, balsamic vinegar and mustard notes pop out after 10-15 minutes
Pallet : thick, viscous in the mouth, buttery, caramel, beautiful sherry, fruit notes are less prominent other than orange marmalade, also there aren’t really any old wood notes in this one
Finish: again rich, buttery smooth, but some spices are here, pepper and cinnamon for sure, nice to have some contrast
Mark: 8.8
This is an expression which shows how much variety of flavour you can get from a single cask bottling. While in age statement bottlings the inconsistencies like balsamic vinegar and mustard can get blended out but not here. Another beautiful expression from Glendronach
