Insert a lame ‘dull’ joke here, ok all done. Now let’s get back to business, the name is Glendullan, one of the seven stills of Dufftown. This dram was conceived in 1985, that year was also a mayor milestone for the distillery, as they closed the old plant for good and all of their future produce would come from the 1970’s factory build right next to it. Which could mean that this is one of the last bottles made entirely in the old Glendullan. The independent bottler Douglas McGibbon might not ring a bell, but it was the original name of Douglas Laing. They kept using it on a regular basis for a wide arrange of their provenance bottlings. Though I’m not sure if they still use it since the partition of the mother company into two separate entities: Douglas and Hunter Laing.
Description: distilled in 1985, matured in American oak Bodega sherry casks, bottled in 2000 at age 15 at 43% ABV by Douglas McGibbon.
Nose: a strong fruity perfume of pear juice, lemon and boiled sweets. Fruity to the core, but soft wood smoke and wet limestone giving it an extra touch.
Mouth: far from complex, but like a cold mountain spring it is remarkably in its freshness. A palate bursting with flavour, mainly lemon and nectar, spiced up with caraway seeds and white pepper.
Finish: long and bitter from the oak tannins, yet with a sweet lemon lining. ________________________-
Verdict: powerful in its entirety, beautiful in its simplicity. The official Singleton of Glendullan releases have nothing on this independent release. Makes me curious to find out more about this distillery
