The German bottler Malts of Scotland also has a Glenkinchie, from their first year of operation, i.e. 2009. It matured for 33 long years on a sherry cask. Well, by now we know that Thomas Ewers usually bottles little gems. The rest is history.

The nose is rather dry, but wonderfully sweet. Almost tropical, in fact. Passion fruit! Some baked banana, roasted almonds and soft hints of tobacco. Hay and walnuts. Milk chocolate. Snickers! Toffee. Nicely, though mildly, spiced on coriander and cardamom. Adding a few drops of water makes it open up wonderfully. The tropical fruit cries victory. Amazing!

The attack, as was to be expected, is very powerful, but also pleasantly warming. Creamy. Does not burn. Again very fruity in a nice framework of oak. The spices remain soft. Good! Just like on the nose, the palate becomes very fruity with a drop of water. Stunning!

The finish makes this party complete. Layered, warm and long, fruity with a drying after effect.

Class! I liked it a lot without water, but a bit of H2O makes this a stunning whisky. I do not believe a Glenkinchie of this magnitude will come my way again soon.

Wow this sounds great. Not like a Lowlander though, more like a Speysider maybe... I have a bottle of the standard Glenkinchie 12yo and don't like it that much, but that's another story I guess.

And btw. I love Snickers!

Yeah, this Glenkinchie is quite stunning and unlike any I have ever tried.
