Which one is better and which one is worth the price? Haven't tasted any of the two, but I'm thinking on buying one of them.

Hi PaulT., I have not tasted the glenlivet yet, but in my opinion the glenfiddich is worth the price...it has a beautiful structure, with a sherry note on the first sip and just a hint of smoke that lingers on the back of your tongue...I very often order it at my favourite bar...

@PaulT. Ive not tried either but i have a bottle of the 15yo of both, neither of which are close to my favourite dram. If i was you i'd opt for the Glenfarclas 15yo, its around the same price, a Speyside, similar characteristics, and it's fantastic!

additionally, Master of Malt do the Glenfiddich 18 by the dram if you wanted to try it before committing to a full bottle (they also have the Glenfarclas by the dram but not the Glenlivet)

They are very similar but the Glenfiddich is more mellow.

@PaulT., I am with stu on recommending the Glenfarclas 15. On the Glenfiddich side, I don't know the 18 yo but the 51% ABV Glenfiddich 15 yo Distillery Edition has a lot more flavour to me than the 43% version of the Glenfiddich 15.

Only a few years ago the 'livet 18 could be had for $55. Now it's north of $90 in many places. Not a bad value at the previous price, but too expensive now. If you're going to pay the price, though, the 'fiddich 18 is the better of the two.

For less money, although not a Speysider, the Dalwhinnie 1992 (bottled in 2010) Distiller's Edition is more flavorful.

@whiskyshiba Ah, yes! You live in one of the "high-volume" regions of the country where your retailers don't get gouged by the BIG importers because they sell too few cases. That economy of scale makes it easy for us in the hinterlands to disregard some of the mediocre malts at too-high prices and opt instead for better malts at reasonable values.
