This is not the first Glenlossie bottled by The Whisky Mercenary. Two years ago he bottled another Glenlossie 1992 which was quite nice indeed. This bottling, only 48 bottles strong, was released for BYOB-C (say Biopsy), which is short for Bring Your Own Bottle Club, a Belgian club of whisky lovers which, as the name suggests, organizes tastings where each member brings his or her own bottle. Now they have their first club bottling, this Glenlossie 22 Year Old.

The nose is fresh with a twig of mint, orchard fruit (mostly pears) and gooseberries. Fairly sweet. Sweetened malt, it seems. Floral touch. Add some vanilla and a hint of citrus and you get a nice aperitif nose in my opinion.

Good mouth feel and strength. While it is powerful, it does not need water. Yes, it is quite punchy. Again apples and pears, sweet malt, gooseberries. Perfect continuation of the nose. The citrus becomes mandarin and grapefruit. Midpalate the oak becomes somewhat louder and the spices come to the fore. A pinch of chili, ginger and mint.

In the finish – which is medium long – the spices linger and become somewhat green, if you know what I mean.

Nice and fruity Glenlossie with a great body. Ideal as an aperitif. Thanks for the sample, Jürgen and Dominic. I have added the bottle to my collection.
