In November 2022 I participated in the Cadenhead Warehouse tasting at Spirits in the Sky, the best whisky festival in the Benelux. Cameron, Cadenhead's ambassador, brought cask samples of stuff that has not yet been bottled (maybe in the meantime, that might be the case, I didn’t double-check) and maybe won't ever be bottled. Anyway, there was an 11-year-old Glentauchers among them that really appealed to me. All we know is that it was distilled in 2010 or 2011.

Sweet nose on green pineapple, barley sugars, white fruit and some menthol. Devoid of spices. Some earthy notes pop up, which is somewhat unexpected. Slate and sand. Grape sugar and something of dry oak after a few moments. Hint of leather. Special.

Oily on the palate and immediately nice and sweet with a strong stimulus from the alcohol. It doesn't bother. It dances on the taste buds like an effervescent tablet with white fruit, banana and pineapple. Alive & Kicking of the Simple Minds suddenly appears in my mind's ear. What? Yup.

The finish is long, spicy and spicy.

Could be bottled now (if that hasn't already happened), but might as well spend a few more years in the cask. This one has potential!
